The research of the Hoekman family is yet in an early stage. In 2008 I started to collect information on all people with the surname Hoekman and who lived in the North-Eastern part of Nederland. I don't collect information on (the big) Hoekman families from Zeeland and Zuid-Holland.
My father's mother is Egberdina Hoekman (born 27-7-1894). Her sister Geertje and her brother Jan also married a Netjes. Geertje Hoekman married Wolter Netjes, a brother of my grandfather Albert Netjes. Jan Hoekman married a Hoksbergen, a grand-niece of my grandfather.
The line found from these three people goes back to 1620. This tribe of Hoekman's is originated in Genemuiden en has been spread out from there to surrounding areas toward Kampen. A connection to people from outside Overijssel has not been found yet. Two of my ancestors were mayor of Genemuiden.
The name Hoekman can be found in Noord-West Overijssel and also, in much greaters numbers, in Drenthe and South-West Nederland. I don't know about other parts of the country. It is certain many unrelated families carry the surname Hoekman.
The database contains 3200 people belonging to the Hoekman family. In fact de Hoekman family does have more descendants in this database. But many of them are counted, by me, as descendants of the Netjes or van t Hul families.
